The current trend is for artists and groups to release artwork sets of 5,000 to 20,000 NFTs, which can be used as profile pictures on social media. The nonfungible tokens (NFTs) Square Enix has in mind for Final Fantasy 7 are different from conventional NFTs. Bored Ape Yacht Club is the most famous example of this, but there are many more successful collections of this ilk. 

The risk of such tokens for financial systems were underscored in May when crypto markets were sent tumbling by the collapse of one stablecoin TerraUSD and its paired token Luna, though these helped underpin a network of decentralised finance (DeFi) applications, rather than being used to make real world payments.

This is partly in response to the development of so-called stablecoins, privately issued tokens such as Tether and USDC, whose value is pegged to that of a traditional asset, often the U.S.

dollar, which are typically used as a store of value and to make payments.

You still own the same portion of the company, though stock splits may temporarily increase stock price volatility, or the probability of large swings in the stock price.
